Note: This is a complicated subject. We will only touch on some topics. We recommend that you talk these issues over with an attorney and a CPA.

The Colorado Department of Revenue is having a recordkeeping problem!

Sometimes they send refunds when they shouldn't. Sometimes they take a long time to send refunds. Sometimes they send nasty letters instead of refunds.

Speaking of nasty letters -- Frequently the CO "Notice of Deficiency or Rejection of Refund Claim" letter is sent to those that have properly made a Colorado extension payment.  It is our experience that sometimes the Colorado Department of Revenue does not correctly apply the extension payment to the taxpayer's account.

If you get such a Colorado Notice of Deficiency or Rejection of Refund Claim, you can contact the Colorado Department of Revenue.

You are also welcome to contact us at 720-493-4804. We charge about $150 to reply to this notice.

BTW, there are times when the Colorado Department of Revenue is correct!
