Problem:

Sometimes it is hard to tell who gets what.  Sometimes financial assets that are described in a will or estate have changed due to mergers, acquisitions, spin-offs, etc.

Sometimes assets that are not supposed to be liquidated and spent have been spent.

Sometimes a trustee has been dishonest or simply made very poor decisions.

Example: A will is created in 1984.  (The AT&T divestiture took place on January 1, 1984.) Heir 1 is to receive all of the AT&T stock.  Heir 2 and Heir 3 are each to receive 1/2 of the "Baby Bells".  The decedent dies in 2005.  The AT&T "Family" has gone through many changes since 1984.  Who gets what?
